Establishment of a Preparatory Corporation for Opening One of Japan’s Largest AI Data Centers in Satsumasendai City
Satsumasendai City (Mayor: Ryoji Tanaka) is working to utilize the area behind Sendai Port with the aim of creating a circular economy and industrial hub.Kagoshima Prefecture (Governor: Koichi Shiota), in cooperation with Satsumasendai City and related organizations, is promoting the attraction of data centers to the prefecture.
Against this backdrop, a new company, Kai Shin Digital Infrastructure Inc. (Representative Director: Melanie Nan), will be established by CDIB Capital Group, one of Taiwan’s leading venture capital firms. The company will be responsible for preparing the establishment of one of Japan’s largest clusters of AI data centers, starting at an initial scale of 350 MW, with future expansion potential.
The company will conduct surveys and preparations for the introduction of data centers on the former site of the Sendai Thermal Power Plant, within the Circular Park Kyushu area.
This area aims to realize the “Circular Park Kyushu” concept — transforming the entire former power plant site into a hub for resource circulation. Accordingly, the company will also explore business collaboration with Circular Park Kyushu Co., Ltd. (Co-CEOs: Masaru Haruki and Sumiyuki Nakadai) toward realizing a circular society through initiatives such as waste reduction and recycling within data center operations.
Furthermore, this project will be jointly planned and managed in cooperation with Shinetsu Science Industry Co., Ltd. (Representatives: Kotaro Kosaka and Goro Sasaka), a company with extensive expertise and experience in establishing data centers.
